Title: Translator looking for work
Post by: Miho on August 18, 2018, 01:58:29 PM
Hello, my name is Miho. I am an avid JP->EN translator. I am a student of Japanese (level unsure... somewhere between JLPT 3/2) I am looking for josei/seinen manga to practice. My first language is English.

I started manga translating back during my university days (I was in a group called Mangascreener and I translated chapter 1-2 of NANA by Yazawa Ai a long long time ago - year 2004/2005 or something like that) then I took a long hiatus because I got married and had kids. Now my kids are older so I am finding myself time to return to old hobbies.

More recently I returned to manga translation and translated exclusively for a group called ChibiManga for about 3 years. But these days I have decided to venture, for the purpose of moving out of my comfort range... So now I translate for about 4-5 groups. I am able to do this because I am somehow able to translate 8-15 chapters a month (depending on number of pages, difficulty would be like Margaret/Dessert/Cheese/Princess/Missy Comics level) ... but maybe if it’s something harder I will be slower, I am looking for manga that challenges me, I have done mostly shoujo/josei... I am trying to move on to josei/seinen. I honestly do not know if I will be up to par but I would like to give it a try. If you want me to sit for a test I would happy to do that.

I started a tumblr to share my recent work https://miho-tl.tumblr.com/ there’s a lot more but it’s not scanned/cleaned/typeset so unfortunately I don’t have anything to show...

Thank you for reading this. I hope I can be of use to this group.

Hello Miho,

I see that you have plenty of experience under your belt. I didn't even need to ask for credentials. I was around when Mangascreener was super active. So much nostalgia. I think our projects will definitely be a little more challenging in terms of translating than what you're used to. This will only help you to move into the next stage as a translator.

Are there any projects you are particularly interested in? Also could you let me know what material you do not want to work on? Because we do have some mature manga here, some more graphic than others. I don't want to scare you away.  :shaded:

We'd love to have, no, NEED you in on our team. You can join me, Jel and hirolove in our lonely little corner.

Thank you so much for considering my application!! I would be very glad to help! I am ok with any project, I will read almost anything josei. I am ok with mature content graphic-wise. But I am afraid of horror.. and I feel uncomfortable with BL, shonen-ai, yuri, yaoi... but everything else is ok.

Thank you very much for giving me this opportunity!

Miho, I opened up the staff section for you. If you go to Headquarters, under Project Area, click on "Desktops." You'll find all our projects. I'm scanning a lot more right now, so we have plenty of work to do.

Jel is translating Natsuyuki Rendezvous, Nobody Cry, and will start on 3am Terrible Zone Vol.2 if she has time.

Hirolove is translating & by Okazaki Mari and Otoko no Isshou by Nishi Keiko.

Everything else open. Once you decide you can PM me to let me know or just post in the thread which chapter you picked up. I can help if you run into trouble.

Thank you for joining Stiletto Heels Team. :ohh:

I'm so sorry... I saw the forum and started looking around before I read this post and of all things I end up picking Nobody Cry...  :umm:

But erm... Jels was very nice to say I can do it, so I will try my best to do this chapter justice!

Thank you for telling me what's available, I will continue looking.

After I gave you access I went back to scanning and it got so late, so our timing was a bit off. Jel is super sweet.  :puppyeye: She's going to help me finish some other ongoing projects, so I'm looking forward to your translations for Nobody Cry. Stiletto is typesetting Story 2: Falling in Love, so you have plenty of time to get Story 3 finished.

We do not have deadlines. Everybody here works at their own pace. If I seem like I'm rushing by putting up raws or my own translations, it's not what it seems. I will occasionally hibernate to focus on RL and my job, so I try to get out as much as possible while I'm around. I'm other words, don't mind me. I know readers want it faster, but I want the team to be happy to be here above all else.

Welcome to the team Miho... It's always good news to have more translators in the team. Don't get surprised by our easy going pace. We get the job done when you least expect it. XD

Hats is the sweetest slave driver you can find out there. She respects everyone's pace and knows how to lure them by waving at them the projects they like... When she catches you drooling it's already too late...

Heh Aerial, you too...?  XD

Hats only waves them though... if it's going to work, who has complaints...?  haha

Sorry Lilanar, I saw it pretty late!

Hehe, well all she has to do is just wave them somewhere within our field of view to get us hooked.  :woot:  but I was also referring to how easygoing and understanding she is. Hats, we love you.
