Title: Movies you want to see
Post by: Minelauva on May 01, 2015, 12:09:41 PM
I just read this on ANN (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2015-04-28/exclusive-i.g-brings-miss-hokusai-to-annecy-posts-english-subtitled-trailer/.87441) and I'm intrigued. The movie, called Sarusuberi, was directed by Keiichi Hara and is going to be released soon in Japan. I watched the trailer. It was good. It reminded me of Mike Leigh's movie, Mr. Turner. It's going to be shown at the Annecy film festival, which takes place in June not too far from where I live, but I'm still not sure I'm going to go there. However, I will probably go watch it after its official release.

Ooh, definitely want to see that when it becomes available here in the states. The visuals look gorgeous!

I haven't been really up-to-date with newer films. For sure though I want to catch Far From the Madding Crowd because I've seen every adaptation of it so far. I'm a big Thomas Hardy fan, so there's this extra cautiousness I have when approaching an adaptation. The 1998 version of Gabriel Oak (Nathaniel Parker) is my favorite, and I hope Matthias Schoenaerts' portrayal will do the character justice. Whatever anyone says, I like Carey Mulligan. While I don't see her as Bathsheba Everdene physically, I think she has the acting chops to convince me otherwise... Maybe...

Oh, I'll go see it too then. I'm curious now. Maybe I should read the book before...

I have to see this movie (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2q68qh_extrait-de-the-assassin-de-hou-hsiao-hsien_shortfilms?start=3) when it gets out... in December.  :wahhh:

@Minelauva Did you end up seeing it? I saw it and it was gorgeous! Beautiful cinematography! It was very very slow, though. I thought it would be more fast paced but it held a certain charm.

I want to watch all the Oscar nominee for best picture. I usually tend to do that per year but always run out of time!  :wahhh:

Last movie I saw was on Friday, The Revenant. It was beautiful but I feel like the story and characters were a little weak. My favorite cinematographer worked on it, Lubezki, so I would at least go to appreciate that.  Other than that the movies for 2015 have been a little disappointing. Well, except Anomalisa. That one I really enjoyed. A lot of work was put into that film, which you can tell by just watching. And the writing is A+ for me. Very witty.

Do you guys have any other movies you're hyped for?

The release was pushed back. It's coming out next month. I don't get to see this kind of movies often, so I can't wait to see it. It seems to have a nice atmosphere.

You're talking about: http://letterboxd.com/film/the-assassin-2015/

Right? There's a torrent for it out, which is why I watched it in November lol. I don't know if you approve of torrenting though >_>

I don't have anything against it from a moral standpoint but I don't do it much because it's not safe in France. So usually I use direct downloads. However, in this case, I'm waiting because I want to be able to see it on a big screen, in a cinema. Thanks for the tip though.  :butsubutsu:

The case of Hana and Alice (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZ9S44boGIE) came out today in France. I will probably try to watch it. It seems interesting.

I saw the trailer for that. Definitely a fan of the original movie by Shunji Iwai so I'm stoked they casted the actresses who played Hana and Alice for the voices.
